Phnom Penh, Cambodia [13th September 2024] – The Department of Digital Transformation of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport, in partnership with CAMGSM PLC. (Cellcard), has launched a program aimed at strengthening of teachers digital training programs in Cambodia. This initiative, supported by the CBRD Fund of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, aims to transform education in the country by equipping teachers with essential digital skills.

The program, which will run from September 2024 to April 2026, focuses on enhancing teacher qualifications, developing digital literacy resources, and introducing innovative teaching methods. By providing training to 40 teacher trainers, 600 student teachers at the training institutes and 1,500 teachers of primary and secondary schools in the target provinces, the program will benefit over 50,000 students nationwide.

To facilitate teachers’ digital training and research, the program will provide essential technological resources to support teacher trainers, student teachers, teachers and researchers involved in digital content creation. These resources will enable them to access the necessary tools and connectivity to effectively participate in the program.

“This program aligns with the Education Strategic Plan 2024-2028 and is a crucial step towards achieving a digital transformation in the education sector, under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport,” said Mr. Sok Tha, Director of the Department of Digital Transformation. This partnership demonstrates the significant potential of private sector contributions to enhancing teachers’ digital competencies and, in general, advancing digital education in Cambodia.

Johnny Wong, Division Chief Commercial Officer at CAMGSM PLC., expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. “We are committed to providing the teachers with the tools they need to succeed in the digital age,” he said.

The program to strengthen teachers’ digital training marks a significant milestone in Cambodia’s efforts to modernise its education system and prepare students for the future.

Recently, Cellcard has also partnered with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to organize the Digital Education Forum. This forum brought together key stakeholders to discuss challenges, share best practices, and explore innovative solutions for implementing digital education strategies.

The forum focused on the potential of digital school management information systems (SMIS) to improve school administration, enhance student learning, and facilitate financial transactions. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, this initiative paves the way for Cambodia’s digitally transformed education sector.
