Phnom Penh, January 9: Youngsters at Keo Pos Primary School in Steng Hau district in Sihanoukville will soon be able to further discover the joys of reading and add to their knowledge, thanks to the success of last year’s Shine of Hope 2 charity concert.
Concert organizers Youth Development Program (YDP) and Cellcard will use the funds raised during the concert to build a library for the center. Both parties are currently finalizing location plans for the new building, which is scheduled for completion by the end of February.
Cellcard subscribers further contributed to the library by donating $1,891.50 in total via SMS.
“The charity concert was our second one to raise funds for a deserving cause, and we’re proud that this one was also so well-received,” said Mr. Keo Pitou, YDP representative. “Thanks to those attending the concert and other parties, we’ve managed to contribute to the kids of Keo Pos Primary School and hopefully impact their future.”
Cellcard Head of Segment Marketing, Mr Phon Navuth was honored that the telco was able to give back to the community.
“We believe that education is one of the most important things we can give our young, but to do so, they must first have access to proper learning and reading materials,” he said. “We believe the school’s new library will facilitate a keener exchange of knowledge, inculcate a deeper love of reading and set children on the right path towards success.”
The concert on November 7 last year featured performances from popular singers and bands, a cosplay fashion show and a magic show, among others,
