Cellcard Playgame & EFC hosts national search for Esports Teams to represent Cambodia in 31st SEAGAMES.

Phnom Penh – Cellcard, in partnership with the Esports Federation of Cambodian (EFC) and with the support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MOEYS) and the National Olympic Committee (NOCC), launches the Road to SEAGAMES tournament, opening doors to the 31st SEAGAMES for local esports pro teams. The tournament will run from January 27th until February 20, 2022.

The press conference was held today, January 20, 2022 at Raffles Le Royal and was addressed by the Secretary of EFC, Mr. Lun Samedy, EFC President, H.E Chea Chanboribo, and Cellcard CEO, Simon Perkins. The launch was also graced by Mr. Kang Sothea representing H.E. Vath Chamroeun —- Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and Secretary General of CAMSOC, and Mr. Pun Sok, representative of H.E. Ouk Sethycheat, Director of the National Sports Training Center of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

Hosted in Hanoi, Vietnam the 31st SEAGAMES will be held in May 2022 and for the second time running, esports will be an official medal event. Three esports medal events will be hosted, including two major mobile game titles; PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends Bang Bang.

The Road to SEAGAMES tournament, opens today for registration through Playgame Arena. It is the official search for the PUBG Mobile and MLBB esports teams to represent Cambodia in the prestigious event. Four teams will be representing Cambodia together. EFC will also be sending in a referee (ITO) and a technical officer to be part of the SEAGAMES event.

According to Cellcard CEO, Simon Perkins “The gaming community has come far from what it once was when we started, but we continue to push further, endeavouring to not only provide the connectivity needed for the category to thrive, but more so to provide opportunities for local esports teams to be recognised both locally and internationally. With the SEAGAMES approaching, Cellcard together with the EFC and the support of the NOCC and MOEYS, have planned a ROAD TO SEAGAMES initiative to ensure Cambodia’s participation in the 31st SEAGAMES esports medal events”.

 

While registrations for the Road to SEAGAMES National Tournament opens today, two esports teams have already earned a spot in the tournament’s  Group Stage or Top 64 qualifiers. PUBGM teams APG Esports and Orange Esports are the first two teams to qualify for the Road to SEAGAMES National Tournament through their win in the Pre-SEAGAMES Tournament held earlier this year.

The Road to SEAGAMES tournament forms part of Cellcard’s agenda in supporting, nurturing and growing the esports and gaming category in Cambodia. Since 2019, Cellcard has made progress in the category with the launch of innovative products and services and regular roll out of tournaments with its exclusive partnership with the Esports Federation of Cambodia (EFC). 

“We are continuing our efforts towards innovating new products and services that is relevant to esports whilst continue to drive Cellcard’s roll-out plans in the coming months” added Simon Perkins.

Registration to the Road to SEAGAMES National Tournament is open and free via the PlayGame Arena at www.unlimited.play.com.kh/arena.

Registration ends on January 25th, 2022.
