Phnom Penh, Feb. 12: Officially launched today at the Olympic Stadium by H.E. Sean Borat, the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the volleyball tournaments will see 26 high schools pitted against each other to award this year’s Western Volleyball Cup.

Now in its seventh year, the Western Volleyball Cup aims to promote the sport, develop a healthy competitive spirit among the youth, as well as uncover and rewards talented players with cash prizes and educational support.

The Western Volleyball Cup offers a 10 million-riel first prize to the champions, six million riels for second place, four million riels for third and three million for forth. Teams that fail to qualify each earn 250,000 riels. All teams will also receive sports equipment and a four-year scholarship discounted by 50% to study at Western University.

The matches are scheduled every week in schools across Phnom Penh, with the tournament due to end in the middle of March. For the detailed schedules and updates of the games, tune in to Cellcard facebook fan page for schedules, results, video coverage, and more.

“Sports play a key role in building core values like teamwork, camaraderie and discipline, in a fun, engaging and healthy way. As a company we value these characteristics in the workplace, and we believe that nurturing these values among the youth will provide them with a good foundation and competitive advantage when they start navigating their future career paths. “ said Cellcard CCO, Laszlo Barta

Other sponsors for the tournament include the M-150 Company, Cambodia Beverage Company, Western International School and Western Training Center. Parties interested in further sponsoring the Western Cup can contact Western University directly at No. 15, Street 528, Boeung Kok 1, Phnom Penh.
