Cellcard announces Cambodia’s first 5G use case to help the Kingdom during Covid-19

Published Date: March, Friday 27, 2020

Cellcard has today announced Cambodia’s first 5G use case – a telemedicine service at four locations across Phnom Penh to help the nation’s most critically ill during the Covid-19 crisis.

Cellcard is the only 100% Cambodian-owned and Proudly Khmer mobile network operator which has been serving the people of Cambodia since 1997.

The service will see Phnom Penh’s leading doctors assess patients nation-wide via video conference link to mobile phones and devices anywhere in Cambodia.

The service can be used to connect to patients in their homes, in clinics or other hospitals.

Doctors will be able to provide real-time standard clinical care, counseling, and therapy as well as education for patients and professional consultation and supervision for on-the-ground medical teams.

Cellcard, which recently demonstrated its 5G speeds of more than 1.6 Gigabits per second, will install the service at:

  • the Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospital,
  • The Chak Angre Health Center,
  • Ministry of Health
  • and Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications

The initiative is being led by Royal Group Chairman Neak Oknha Kith Meng in full cooperation with both Ministries.

The Cellcard team is in final planning stages for the solution which will be in operation on March 30, 2020.

Cellcard Chief Executive Officer said the telemedicine service would be the first major step in delivering on the Chairman’s vision for a fully digitalised Cambodia.

“We have always maintained that Cellcard would lead Cambodia’s introduction to 5G and that we would ensure the technology would indeed improve lives,” Mr. Watson said.

“With the Covid-19 situation, we see this as the most critical and urgent application to support the medical community as they work to protect lives wherever patients are across the Kingdom.

“This is a major collaborative response by the Royal Group ICT Division reinforcing our commitment to do everything we can to support and care for the people of Cambodia during these uncertain times.”

The technical solution for the service will see Cellcard’s 5G conjoin with Ezecom fiber optics.

Doctors will be able to provide consultation over 5G Ultra-High speed with High Definition video nation-wide.
