Royal Group supports the medical community in Sihanoukville with special dispatch of FREE SIMs

Royal Group’s Cellcard today made a special delivery of more than 80 FREE SIM cards to doctors and medical staff in Sihanoukville giving them free voice and SMS for as long at the Covid-19 situation continues.

The move comes after Cellcard announced on Friday that it would work with the Ministry of Health (MoH) to ensure all doctors and medical staff nation-wide were equipped with as much voice calls and SMS as they needed.

More than 1200 doctors and medical staff on the Cellcard network have already been waived of all on-net voice and SMS as of Friday evening.

Any doctor on the MoH registry is eligible and, if not on Cellcard already, can have SIM cards delivered to them for free.

The initiative is part of the Royal Group response to Covid-19, being headed by the Chairman Neak Oknha Kith Meng who is working closely with both the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.

The entire Royal Group ICT Division including Cellcard, Ezecom, Wing, Cambodia Broadcasting Service, and Digital Sky has launched a nationwide response of support plans, discounts, and new services to support customers.

The response must include the Kingdom’s doctors and nurses on the frontline as they work to combat the Covid-19 and treat patients with existing conditions, said Cellcard Chief Executive Officer, Ian Watson.

“Under our Chairman’s guidance, we launched the Medical Community initiative with the Ministry of Health on Friday and saw an urgent need in Sihanoukville,” Mr. Watson said.

“It is our way of saying thank you for the critical work doctors and medical staff are doing, but also keep the Kingdom connected and the medical community able to communicate 24/7.”

Mr. Watson said the initiative was in addition to the 5G Telemedicine service which will go live tomorrow in four locations across Phnom Penh.

The service, which is the first 5G use case to go live in Cambodia, will give the Kingdom’s leading doctors immediate and nationwide access to assess and consult patients wherever they are located via mobile phones and devices, and coordinate on-ground medical teams.

“Cellcard will stand by the medical community, and indeed all of our customers, during these uncertain times and will continue close coordination with the Ministry of Health to help them manage through this crisis,” Mr. Watson said.
